![]() Manuscript 2003.18JULIA STROZIER HOPSON COLLECTION MS-2003.18 1926 - 2000 SOURCE: Lillian Murphy and Linda Stephenson SIZE: 1 lf SHELVING UNITS: 1 Box PROCESSING: BNJ, 2003 BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Julia Strozier Hopson was born March 11, 1910, in LaGrange, Georgia, to Newman Earnest Hopson and Martha Amanda Strozier. Shortly after her birth, the family moved from their home on Hines Street to within a mile of Odessadale, Georgia. An Army veteran, she served as a nurse in World War II. She became secretary/bookkeeper for several businesses including LaGrange Hardware. As a member of the First Baptist Church, she was active in the Ministry to the Hearing Impaired and taught sign language for over thirty years. She was a charter member and first president of the Credit Women's Breakfast Club of LaGrange, organized May 17, 1962. This organization later became LaGrange Credit Women International. She died on October 24, 2000, and is buried in the Odessadale United Methodist Church cemetery. SCOPE/CONTENT: The collection consists of four scrapbooks detailing the history and membership of the Credit Women's Breakfast Club. Some school records and certificates of Julia Strozier Hopson are included as is information regarding her work with the hearing impaired at First Baptist Church. A certificate belonging to Allie Tripe Hopson Lang, from Troup County Technical School, is included. An autobiography of Mrs. Joe Patterson details First Baptist Church mission work in Troup County.
