On February 25, 1929, she married Grady Fowler, b. 1907, d. May 9, 1988, and had one son, Kenneth Fowler. They moved to LaGrange in 1943 and resided here until their deaths. She helped establish the Troup County Archives and served on the Board of Trustees for the Troup County Historical Society. She also served as Registrar of the LaGrange Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and was a member of the Chattahoochee Valley Historical Society, the LaGrange Woman's Club, the Nocturne Garden Club, United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), and Colonial Dames of America. She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square where she taught Sunday school and was active in Women's Missionary Union. She was on the History Committee that produced One Hundred Fifty Years of History: The First Baptist Church, 1828-1978 and was instrumental in having the grave of bridge-builder Horace King marked in LaGrange. Mrs. Fowler died May 28, 2001, and was buried at Hendrick's Cemetery in the Crest Community of Upson County, Georgia. SCOPE AND CONTENT Most of the material pertains to genealogical research done by Susie Fowler for other people, often women seeking membership in DAR or UDC. Correspondence is genealogical in nature and arranged chronologically. Family files are arranged alphabetically by last name. Information in these files includes her research notes and genealogical material sent to her from people she was helping. Subject files contain information regarding various organizations and places in the Troup County and surrounding area. Included are genealogical notebooks used by Mrs. Fowler while researching for others, Callaway Foundation Annual Reports from 1972-1984, and files containing genealogical information regarding the descendants of Benjamin Harvey Hill. A scrapbook contains news articles about the Long Cane Community written by Mollie Lukken. Photographs are of local buildings, events, and people.
