He married Mamye Felder and together they had four children: one son, Walter, and three daughters, Jennie, Dale, and Elizabeth. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi and joined the LaGrange College Faculty in 1958. He began as a professor in the education department and eventually made his way up to academic dean. He helped to coordinate student teacher programs and direct the formation of new majors in elementary education and early childhood education. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa national professional education fraternity, Georgia Association of Educators, and LaGrange Civitan Club (where he served as president twice). He served on the faculty of LaGrange College twenty-four years before retiring on July 1, 1982. In 1987 his book, LaGrange College 1948-1978: The Waights G. Henry, Jr., Years, was published. He died on February 26, 2000.SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE This collection contains notes and typescripts gathered in preparation of the book LaGrange College 1948-1978: The Waights G. Henry, Jr., Years. The 1974-1975 annual report by President Waights G. Henry and personal data on Graduate faculty at LaGrange College are found here. Also contained in the collection is information on the development of a Masters of Education program at LaGrange College.
