BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

William Lamar Dodd, the son of Francis Jefferson and Etta Irene Cleveland Dodd, was born in Fairburn, Georgia, 22 September 1909. The elder Dodd, a Baptist minister, moved his family to LaGrange about 1914, and Lamar grew up at The Oaks, his mother's family home on Vernon Street. He attended LaGrange mother's family home on Vernon Street. He attended LaGrange College as a special art student, studied architecture at Georgia Tech, and attended the Art Students' League in New York. He married Mary Lehman of LaGrange and in 1937 joined the Art faculty of the University of Georgia. A year later he became head of the department, a position he held until his retirement in 1973. LaGrange College's Lamar Dodd Art Center houses some three hundred of his paintings.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of clippings, magazine articles, and memorabilia documenting Dr. Dodd's career and his close ties with LaGrange. The materials were gathered by Mrs. Fuller Callaway, Jr., a long-time friend of Dodd.
