BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: When Suzanne Cook was elected mayor of Hogansville in 1984, she became the first female to be elected mayor of any city in Troup County. A native of Green Cove Springs, Florida, she moved to LaGrange when she was five years old and graduated from LaGrange High School. She graduated from LaGrange College and worked as a chemist for ten years in Houston, Texas, before returning to Troup County and beginning her teaching career in 1975. Ms. Cook was a member and secretary of the Concerned Citizens of Hogansville as well as a member of the Hogansville Pilot Club where she served as director, division coordinator, and president. While mayor of Hogansville, she continued to teach at Heard County High School. She has a son, John, and resides in Hogansville.

SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection consists of a number of documents, photographs and news articles relating to Concerned Citizens of Hogansville. This group of Hogansville community members opposed the creation of a Comprehensive High School serving Hogansville, LaGrange and West Point in the early 1980s. Project proposals by the Hogansville Historic Preservation Commission (HHPC) relating to the preservation and restoration of the Hogansville Amphitheater, Royal Theater, East Main Street Historical District and Stark Mill Historical District are also found in the collection. Personal memorabilia from Hill Street Junior High School, Southwest LaGrange School and LaGrange College as well as a study by the Hogansville Historic Preservation Commission on the Hogansville Community Building are included in the collection.
