BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Mary Evelyn Long Hires Hernandez, a native of Gastonia, North Carolina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams Long, Jr., graduated from LaGrange High School in 1962. She attended Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, and the University of Georgia in Athens. Mrs. Hernandez, a talented pianist, has been playing the piano since the age of nine. She trained under Miss Katherine Cline at LaGrange College and began teaching piano in LaGrange in 1975.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection consists of a number of news articles, clippings and memorabilia compiled by Mary Evelyn Hernandez from her childhood. It also includes flight documents and artifacts relating to the military service of her father, John Williams Long, Jr. Long served in the United States Army Air Force beginning in 1942.
