HISTORICAL NOTE

On March 4, 1937, the teachers of the LaGrange Public School System met to organize the LaGrange Education Association. Superintendent F. F. Rowe presided over the meeting at which Marion Roberts was elected President, Mrs. Berta Weathersbee, Vice-President, and Miss Louise Vaughn, Secretary-Treasurer. Meetings and programs were held at various schools. In 1971, with the advent of integration, the LaGrange Education Association (LEA) merged with its black counterpart, the LaGrange Teachers and Education Association (LTEA).
