He founded WLAG Radio in LaGrange in 1941, and served as radio announcer for LaGrange High School football and basketball games in the 1950s and 1960s. He served as president of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, and received the Pioneer Broadcaster Award from that organization in the 1980s. He was active in the LaGrange community as a long-time member and president of the LaGrange Rotary Club. Mullinax represented LaGrange and Troup County in the Georgia General Assembly from 1967-1984. While there, he worked to bring new industry to LaGrange. He chaired the Industrial Relations Committee of the Georgia General Assembly for ten years, and sponsored several revisions to the state's workers' compensation laws.
