BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:

Retired LaGrange dentist, Dr. Pitman B. Cleaveland, Jr. (b. 1921), a Troup County native, is the son of Pitman B. Cleaveland, Sr. (1877-1954) and Annie Ransom (1883-1977). Dr. Cleaveland was an avid Boy Scout enthusiast and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1936. A veteran of World War II and a member of the LaGrange Lions Club for sixty years, he married Eleanor Hart of Newnan, Georgia, in 1950. They had two children, David R. Cleaveland (b. 1954; d. 1973) and Richard H. Cleaveland.

SCOPE AND CONTENT:

The collection consists of a wedding book of memories and 152 digital images of Cleaveland family photographs (TRP-410) copied from family photo albums. The photographs span much of the early life of Dr. Cleaveland including his youth, membership in the Boy Scouts and military service during World War II. Of interest are events held at LaGrange College during the 1940s and photographs of the Cleaveland sons with their classmates at Harwell Avenue School (1960-1966). Eleanor Cleaveland's family (Harts and Powells) are also included. Two Lions Club scrapbooks, one of which covers Dr. Cleaveland's presidency (1969-1970), are a part of the Lions Club Collection, MS-078. CONTAINER LIST:
