UPCOMING PROGRAM
INVESTIGATING SLAVERY IN THE CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY
On Tuesday, November 1, Dr. Anthony Carey will speak about his newest book, Sold Down the River: Slavery in the Lower Chattahoochee Valley of Alabama and Georgia. Published by the University of Alabama Press, the book is the first in-depth study of the institution as it existed in the Chattahoochee Valley to be published.
To celebrate the book’s release, the Troup County Historical Society and the Historic Chattahoochee Commission invite the public to hear the author relate some of the intriguing stories he gathered in the course of his research and sign copies of this groundbreaking publication. Formerly a faculty member at Auburn University, Dr. Carey is currently Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and a Professor of History at Appalachian State University. The event will take place at 6:00 PM eastern time on November 1stat the historic Del’Avant Event Center in downtown LaGrange. Admission is free and refreshments will be served, but reservations are requested by calling the TCHS office at 706-884-1828 or by emailing trace@eufaula.rr.com.
The event is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Charter Bank, Country’s Barbecue, and Gay and Joseph CPA, PC. Copies of the hardback publication will be available at the event for $29.95.
